Operation procedure

Hammertoes can be treated surgically by straightening the toe joints, lengthening extensor tendons or transfer flexor tendons. Since the development is often complex and closely related to instabilities elsewhere in the foot, a general surgical therapy solution cannot be named here.

The aim is to restore the integrity of the affected toe. To do this, the metatarsophalangeal joint must be set and the toe must come to rest between its neighbouring toes. After these corrections almost exclusively full weight bearing ist possible.
